Common questions
- How do I work out the value of gold by carat?
- Multiply the weight in grams by the purity, then by the price of pure gold per gram. 9ct gold is 37.5% pure, 18ct is 75% and 22ct is 91.67%, so 10 g of 18ct gold holds 7.5 g of pure gold.
- What is melt value?
- Melt value is what the pure metal in an item is worth at the spot price. It ignores any stones, solder, workmanship or collector value, so it is a guide to the metal only.
- What is a troy ounce?
- A troy ounce is the unit precious metals are priced in. It is 31.1035 grams, heavier than an ordinary ounce of 28.35 grams. A pennyweight is one twentieth of a troy ounce, or 1.555 grams.
- Does Perth Bullion buy jewellery or scrap gold?
- No. We don't buy jewellery or scrap. We buy gold, silver and platinum bullion, and non-pure coins and bars such as 22ct sovereigns and pre-decimal silver coins, which we price on their pure metal content.
