Silver coins, rounds or bars: which suits you?

All three hold silver. The differences come down to premium, size and how you plan to store and sell it. This is general information, not investment advice.

Coins

Silver bullion coins are made by government mints and are legal tender. They are widely recognised and usually carry a higher premium than rounds or bars.

Rounds

Rounds look like coins but are made by private mints and are not legal tender. They usually cost less per ounce than coins, and 1 oz rounds are easy to buy a few at a time.

Bars

Bars usually carry the lowest premium per ounce, and the premium generally falls as the size goes up. A bar takes less room than the same weight in coins, but you sell it as one piece.

How to compare

Compare the price per ounce, not the price per item. Every product page on our site shows the price per ounce, so you can compare any two products directly.
